For the boom, we have straight (telescopic) arm and folding arm types. Both are very popular.

The main difference between the straight arm aerial vehicle and the folding arm aerial vehicle are in the structural form, operating range, lifting speed and application scene.  

Structural form

Straight arm aerial truck‌: the arm rod is straight, through the telescopic arm to change the height of the working platform, usually composed of multiple telescopic arm sections, it can achieve 360 degrees of rotation. This structure makes the movement trajectory of the working platform of the straight-arm high-altitude vehicle in the process of lifting and lowering is basically a vertical straight line.

Folding arm aerial truck: the arm lever can be folded and extended in the horizontal and vertical directions by the hydraulic system. Each arm lever can be expanded separately to form a different shape. It can cross obstacles to reach the working surface.

Lifting speed and stability

Straight arm aerial truck: the lifting speed is faster, usually used in outdoor environment, such as shipyard, building exterior wall installation. Because of its stable structure, suitable for heavy duty operation, good stability.

‌Folding arm aerial truck: the lifting speed is slow, but it can cross obstacles. Due to its multi-arm extension design, the lifting speed is slower than that of the straight-arm aerial vehicle, which is suitable for indoor and outdoor aerial working environment with obstacles.
