What is a fuel tank trailer?

Fuel tank trailer consists of running gear and tank body, which is mainly used for transporting gasoline, diesel. There are also other tanks that can carry palm oil, milk, chemicals liquids etc. It depends on the tank materials. The trailer will be linked by the king pin to the tractor truck's fifth wheel, delivery goods from one place to another.


Fuel tank trailer is widely used in fuel station, oil and mineral project.

To carry more, the light duty aluminum alloy material is suggested.

If carry milk, stainless steel material is needed.

If carry palm oil, thermal-protective coating is needed.

The structure

Structure is indicated as the followed drawing, the tank section shape can be oval, bread, trapezoid etc, the whole tank can be divided into several independent compartments, under the middle fence plate there is through-hole, the middle fence plate can alleviate the impact on the tank by the fuel while moving. The manhole is with breather valve, which keeps the pressure of the inner tank equal to atmosphere.

Conducting electrostatic device

1. Earth wire is adopted on the rear tank foot, regularly contacts with the earth, whose function is to conduct the static electricity, generated by the shock of the fuel while moving, into the earth,  so as to prevent fire accident caused by the static electricity.

2. Avoid pole

Fixed on the frame, the avoid pole must be pulled out and inserted into the damp earth when refueling or discharging oil, by which way the static electricity generated by kinetic friction of fuel is conducted into the earth,  so as to prevent fire accident caused by the static electricity.

1. Oil loading

(1)Open the upper manhole and load oil

(2)Pumping oil in: Screw four position three-way ball valve 4 to B position, A and C mouth are connected, Screw four position three-way valve 7 to C position, close discharge outlet 9, open front and rear straight ball valve, connect one end of the oil pipe along with truck to B mouth of the four position three-way valve 7, the other end with the oil source, engage the PTO, the pump works, the fuel goes through B-A-3-4-5-6-bottom tank mouth, so  as to realize pumping oil in.


2. Work

(1)self-flow: Open the rear auto-flow ball valve9, the oil can flow out from the tank end.

Additionally, screw four position three-way ball valve and four position three-way valve to A position, open front and rear straight ball valve, close rear auto-flow ball valve, the fuel goes through 4-7-B, and realizes self flow

(2)Pumping oil out: Screw four position three-way ball valve 4 to Position C, B and A mouth are connected, Screw four position three-way valve to Position B, C and A mouth are connected, open front and rear straight ball valve, engage the PTO, the pump works, the fuel flows through bottom tank mouth-5-6-7-3-4-B-oil pump.


3. Notes

(1)The Mark Point direction of four position three way ball valve is the close direction.

(2)Handle toward the pipeline is the open direction, and close direction is 90 degree with the pipeline, for all the single way valves

(3)The work valve must be opened first, then engage the PTO, when working

(4)After work, first disengage the PTO, then close work valve.

(5)When temperature below zero, the drain plug in the tank bottom must be opened, let the remained oil drain away, so as to protect the tank from frost crack.

(6)Regularly take strainer apart and clean it.

(7)Open the upper manhole cover when pumping oil in and out.


4. Preparations before work.

(1)check whether the conducting plate in the truck rear touches down the ground, and all device are normal in condition.

(2)Insert the avoid pole into the damp earth, as to prevent the static electricity.

(3)Check clutch handle, PTO handle or control air valve are in right position, the accelerator is screwed to minimum, and each ball valve handle is the needed position.

(4)Inspect lube surface of increasing gearbox in the oil pump, add gear oil if insufficient.

(5)Add priming oil when no oil in the oil pump. The priming oil must be added when first time use the truck, so as to prevent damage on the oil pump( if not added, the pump will idle)


Maintenance and Notes

1. There is rubber gasket between the tank and the chassis beam, the rubber gasket will transform after heavy load, and the U-bolt will go loose, so after load, the U-bolt shall be tightened, especially when using the new truck.

2. For the cleaning of the tank, the tank and pipeline system shall be washed regularly, the inside and outside joints of the oil pipe end shall be lubricated frequently, so the dismounting and equip is easier, after use of oil pipe, the end cap shall be closed for proof of dust.

3. The medium gets through ball valve shall not be too dirty, for protecting the seal rings, and improving the service life of the ball valve, all ball valves shall not work a long time under a condition of half open and half close, otherwise the seal ring would go damaged. The ball valves must be closed when the truck is driving.

4. The into pump nets needs to be dismounted and washed frequently, for proof of block, which effects the flow.

5. Keep the breather valve clean, and make in work condition, the spring in breather valve shall not be replaced casually, fear to impact the effect of air release, the tank has a danger to transform when the breather valve is blocked.

6. For prevent fire accident, metal knocking the truck is forbidden, which may generate fire spark, when exhaust pipe and silencer damaged, pipeline leaks, electrode damaged or cracked, the truck should be always with fire equipments.

7. If the tank still pot is frozen, do not melt with fire, vapor or driving the truck into warm house is a solution.

8. The conduct plate in the truck rear must connect to the earth while refueling or discharging fuel, also the avoid pole must insert into the damp earth.

9. There must be at least one person for supervise when someone is working in the tank which has hold fuel before.

10. Drain the water remained in the pump in Winter time, for proof of frost damage on the pump.

11. The fuel tanker user must know well how to use fire extinguishers, and frequently inspect the maintain the fire extinguishers.


Malfunction and Solution

Oil absorption is abnormal ( oil can not be absorbed in or too little oil absorbed)

No priming oil in the pump, the vacuum meter manifests 0

Add 15 liters in the pump from the inlet or outlet

Absorption depth is above 5 meters

Beyond the range of application

Oil pipe is blocked, the vacuum meter shows the vacuum degree above 300 mm/mercury column

Check the strainer in the oil sucking pipe, and get rid of obstruction.

Oil sucking pipe is not air tight, vacuum meter shows the vacuum degree is low.

Check and remove air leakage.

Oil pump impellor abraded, vacuum meter shows the vacuum degree is low

Check the oil inlet pipe and other transmission system, if all in normal condition, and the vacuum degree is still low, pls take the pump apart and inspect accordingly.

Oil can not be discharged ( or sediment)

The fuel tank is too dirty, the discharge mouth is blocked, there is water frozen in the tank in winter time

Dismount discharge pipe, remove the impurities, melt the ice with hot water or vapor.

Pump supporting body bottom discharge mouth leaks black oil or the medium delivered

Discharge mouth leaks black oil, which means the seal ring near the increasing gearbox is damaged

Replace seal ring.

The discharge mouth leaks the fuel delivered, that means the mechanical seal ring near the pump is out of function

Inspect and clean the mechanical seal ring, replace the seal ring if found damaged
